Typed Dictionnary

Page history last edited by David Lalonde 14 years, 3 months ago

The dc_typedDictionnary functions, in conjunction with the dc_typedDictionnaryUtils functions and dc_error functions were briefly introduced at the tail end of the Parameter Pandamonium session as another alternative method of automatically creating script variables. However, the dc_typedDictionnary functions implement first and foremost dictionnary functionality, a form of collection in programming.

I was quite surprised at the demand for these functions and at the requests for more information. I did a tiny survey and found interest for a session on the subject of typed dictionnaries: the actual functions; the benefits; what they can be used for.

In a way, this session will be an extension of Parameter Pandamonium. I will present the origins and the raison d'ĂȘtre of the dc_typedDictionnary functions. I will briefly show how they can be used to create script variables. I will show you how and why someone would want to use dictionnaries, especially typed dictionnaries, in FileMaker Pro.

The dc_typedDictionnary functions are new. Before these functions, I used to use the dc_dictionnary functions. I will explain why I moved to the new dc_typedDictionnary functions. I will be looking forward to your feedback.
