Pause On Error, NYC09 Schedule & Room Guide

NOTE: we are expecting nearly 60 people. We cannot all fit in one room.

It is okay to have overlapping sessions. There are plenty of slots open. If you are considering hosting one, please do. Session creators, please consider offering your session more than once or for longer periods.

The meeting times on this page have been adjusted slightly by the steering committee. We have also  dedicated some time for lunch where you can go grab a bite and sit in smaller discussion groups.  If your time was adjusted and you cannot make that please let either Andy, Ernest or John know.

The previous, deprecated Sessions list can be found here

A blue slot indicates that session will be recorded and broadcasted via ustream. If you don't mind having your session broadcasted and shared online, please set it in blue.

Adding a Session:

  1. Click Edit at the top of this page.
  2. Start typing in one of the cells above, following the format already here. Even if you're not sure about presenting something, throw it in as TBD so folks can see what you're thinking about.
  3. Then grab a word or two in your topic and click the URL icon. Select PBWorks Page as the link type and it will make a new page for you. Visit your link to complete creating the page.
  4. Doesn't have to be fancy. Topics can be as informal as showing someone your laptop over a beer or as fancy as the FMPug presentation you've never had the nerve to present. Rooms are TBD until you check in and get a room number.
  5. Conflicting sessions are a good thing as rooms are VERY  small.

woops, hereby retracting the offer of a printable version, too labor-intensive, too much mud-wrestling with code (unless someone with better CSS chops wants to help)

hmmm. my first comment was overwritten by a second copy of my 2nd comment posted moments later. o well. What I'd Be Happy To Put Together is a printed list of rooms & sessions. This schedule page is not printable from a browser.

hi folks, if you are hosting a session, please be sure to indicate your room in the list above. Thanks! Have a great unconference!

I am actually dealing with some virtual server issues right now...if some one wants to host it, I'll definitely be interested.

Session Idea: Best practices for running a FM Server on a virtual configuration. Many of us are facing situations where the IT departments managing our FileMaker servers are going "virtual". Are there best practices and and configuration recommendations to successfully running a FileMaker server in a VM Ware (or other vendor) virtual environment. I don't want to present this one, just pick the brain of others. Perhaps a discussion?

I am bringing an HDMI to DVI cable, it should work with the in-room TVs. I'll update how this works once i get to the hotel.

Colin, I'll make the appropriate adjustments. Cheers

Ernest Y. Koe said

Hi Court, there are a bunch of people in the KOE room that could probably go over to yours if you don't mind since you do have more space.

Court Bowman said

at 9:24 am on Jul 14, 2009

All,

I notice no one sees to be slotted in my room yet but me. I do have a loft available if anyone needs it. If no one needs it for classes, anyone is welcome to hang out there. Free forms discussions can sometimes be the most productive...

Colin Keefe said

Hey Ernest, I'm not booking a room (only in for 1 day). Gerald Chang offered his room for my session, so perhaps there? The time is fine.

Ernest Y. Koe said

Alrighty, this is my first crack and shaping the schedule. Thanks again for all your contribution to PoE. Please review your slots, let us know if things seem funky. I've added some passing time in between periods and place holder room labels. If you are presenting and still need a room, please let me know. We'll find something that'll work. So...its your turn, I am turning on the Crowdsourcing program (you!) for refinement. Oh yes, there are PLENTY of slots open and we expect LOTS of people, so I encourage you to consider offering a session or making up an ad hoc one as the spirit moves you. If you come up with a session, go rigth ahead and add it to the schedule above.

Many thanks,
Ernest Koe
